Martial how would you describe yourself in three words?

I can do it in one word: passionate.

Did you always dream of becoming a concierge? What attracted you the most to this job and what was your pathway to this position? How long have you been a concierge?

I have been working at the Trémoille for 30 years and I love it. I started in 1981 when I was a student. I worked in the hotel for two seasons and then an opportunity arose where they needed to hire someone, so I quit my studies to work full time at the hotel. At first it wasn’t at all what I wanted to do – I wanted to be a school sports teacher. But as soon as I got a taste of the world of hotels I fell in love. When the Trémoille called me saying that they needed someone I said yes and decided to make it my career.

Some people regard being a Concierge as ‘The dream job’. What do you regard as the perks of working in a luxury hotel?

It’s an exceptional job made so by the contacts I make. You meet fascinating people from all over the world. It is this diversity that is exceptional, and then our clientele has changed little by little – we now have people from emerging countries like Turkey, Brazil etc. You now meet different people that you never would have come across ten years ago.

If you had to attribute a colour to La Trémoille, which one would you choose and why?

Cardinal Red. It’s the colour chosen for the décor and everything is based around that. It is everywhere. It’s a pleasant colour.

We heard you liked to golf. When did you start playing and what is it that you enjoy so much?

I have been playing golf since I was 25 years old. I play as much as I can – at least once or twice a week. It’s a useful sport. We have a lot of businessmen who come to play golf because it allows them to spend four or five hours talking with someone and they can do so out in the fresh air. It’s a perfect environment to conduct business.
