After 10 glorious days in Bordeaux. Our immediate impression was that the city lacked the charm of Bordeaux. We learned that there is even a friendly rivalry between Bordeaux and Toulouse—and when we mentioned that we had just come from Bordeaux, the typical response was, “oh, they are stuck up there.”
We took the tram to Gare Saint Jean, and then the regional train to Saint-Émilion, an easy 30-minute ride from Bordeaux for only 10 euros. From the train stop, we walked into town along fields of dormant grape vines, past old churches and stately chateaus, and up steep cobblestone streets
