1. Reflect, Review, Revise, Refresh, and Renew...

Just a day or so ago I was reading and discussing an article about how to approach and how to go about writing and any project. The emphasis was not on writing alone, but the author, Tara McMullin, was reinforcing the fact that the best writing is actually about revision. Oh, how I know this! For those of you who are writers, or even those who’d like an interesting take on how to approach your New Year projects, this would be an interesting read: ‘Turning ideas into projects is a valuable skill in the 21st-century economy’.

“I’ve accumulated lots of thoughts that I want to turn into a cohesive project—
maybe a book, a podcast series, an online course, or even a single essay.

How do I even begin working on something like that?” says Tara McMullin

Organising projects - Sabrina

This sounds so much like me! Insatiably curious and with a million ideas every day, I am both a note-taker and a note-maker!

With all these ideas floating around in my little head, as I sit down to write to you weekly, I often wrestle with how to ‘connect the dots’… meaning how can I incorporate some of these ideas and in some way connect them to France or French life to produce a meaningful newsletter which you enjoy reading, and that in some way transports you to France.

Tara’s article is titled Review, Revise, and Renew, which I’ve personallised to be REFLECT, Review, Revise, REFRESH, and Renew... Mainly because I wish to REFLECT before I review, and also because I feel that there may be many opportunities to REFRESH to achieve renewal, but let’s see once I launch myself into my projects.

As I sit before my laptop, gazing into the garden, I find myself in the last days of December and writing the last ‘le Bulletin’ newsletter for 2023 (13.52.a,) I thought that the focus on revision was particularly timely for me, and quite probably for you too.

Don’t worry I’m not about to write a ‘year in review’ type article. I feel that there are already too many of these floating around. “Phew,” you may be saying to yourself.

Instead, I’d like to look forward and work on how I can improve on what I do. How I can improve your experience. And I’d love to hear from you if you have any preferences or suggestions (comment below).
