Introducing New MyFrenchLife Magazine Contributor, Judith Magee
I am delighted to welcome Judith Magee to our Contributor team, and we look forward to enjoying her articles as she lives part-time in France and provides us with seasonal inspiration.
Here is how Judith introduces herself:
I spend far too much time in the kitchen, stirring pots of jams and marmalade, popping fruits into bottles of alcohol, whilst casseroles are simmering in the oven. You'll also find my Sumptious Seasons Substack here: https://judithmagee.substack.com/
Now let’s enjoy Judith’s introductory article:
a) →Scrumptious Seasons: January—a faint hint of Spring being on its way
by Judith Magee←
“…We said goodbye to the year, with a Turkey and Ham Pie (using the last of my Christmas Turkey) and A Homity Pie for my vegetarian daughter and niece. My niece had eaten a pie in the Devonshire Arms, near Chatsworth House and mentioned it to me. Never having heard of it, I decided I had to try baking one. It was scrumptious… “ writes Judith Magee

b) →Everything You Always Wanted to Know About French Herb & Spice Blends + recipes
by Laura Washburn Hutton
Don’t Buy Any, except maybe just the one…
There were two choices: fill in the forms for my French taxes or clean the spice cabinet. No prizes for guessing what happened. There were the usual duplicate spice jars and a few out-of-date items for keeping because you never know. And, a surprising number of blends, given that I’m not a huge fan of spice blends.
Surprising, also, that hardly any are French,” writes Laura Washburh Hutton.

c) →Chateau de la Ruche: February garden notes
by Rebecca Jones←
”Colour comes back in February, not at first, in the beginning it’s just more of the same sludgy greys, browns and greens that have been hanging around since the end of November. But as the month wears on the fogs start to lift, a bright green burr begins to appear on some of the fields, there’s a shimmer of white in the woods where the snowdrops gather, and in the sunniest parts of the garden the first tentative celandines start to show their yellow faces, writes Rebecca Jones.
