3 ways to bring 1960s French fashion into your wardrobe
The era of space age aesthetics, and Les demoiselles de Rochefort.
Paris, 1960s. Fashion is forever changed. It’s the launch of short skirts and dresses, the era of futuristic, space-age designs, and the start of ready-to-wear.
Designers André Courrèges, Paco Rabanne, and Pierre Cardin lead the way, collaborating with muses Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Hardy. New brands like Rodier and Carven make fashion accessible for the first time.

Fashion in the 1960s was the perfect mix of modern, daring, and elegant.
It’s so distinct that imitating it can feel like playing dress up. So instead, here are 3 ways to sprinkle and own the spirit of the 1960s in our 2025 outfits.

1. Dare to go bright
Color was everywhere: in people’s homes, on televisions, clothes. It mirrored the time’s optimism and sense of possibility. But it was also because of new dyeing techniques: vivid colors were now accessible for mass production.
The 1960s remind us that bright clothing is never a bad idea and always joyful.

2. Dress in sets
It was all about coordinated outfits: from the Courrèges two-piece vinyl set to the Rodier knit twin set.
It’s chic: you immediately look put together. It’s convenient: it’s two articles of clothing in one.
5 fun sets I found:
Blue twin set, Rodier, M/38, 65€ / Pink twin set, Rodier, M/38, 65€
White embroidered set, Versace, S/36, 150€ (almost got this one for my city hall wedding)
3. Make a statement
Props to Paco Rabanne for his daring use of metal as a clothing material. How incredible does Françoise Hardy look, and can you believe it was 60 years ago?

Françoise Hardy was, well, Françoise Hardy.
She pulled off a mini metal dress in ways I, simply, humbly, cannot. But what a good nudge to add some glam to our outfits.
Paco x Françoise-inspired accessories:
Circle chain vintage belt, 15€ (which, from my Pinterest rabbit holes, Françoise Hardy wore in many different outfits if you need styling inspo)
Or, go all out 60s
It wouldn’t be respectful to this decade to not share a few pieces that truly scream 1960s.
These feel like time capsules 🧡
If you’re like me and can’t get enough of this era, head to Pinterest and scroll through “1960s French fashion” 💖
Better yet: (re)watch Les demoiselles de Rochefort.
For the songs, but really, mostly, for the aesthetic. I want to live in a Jacques Demy film (maybe a post for another time?).
As always, thanks for reading!
