Bonjour Sally , if you wish to read ‘The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows ‘ of Josephine B. By Sandra Gulland with us you need to buy it on line I guess (it seems available on Amazon , regardless of the country where you live and if you are in France , it’s also available at ‘La Fnac’ ). Welcome to the club !
I am new to this journey and I have requested to join on Facebook. Silly question…..do we buy this book online or at a bookstore …or is it available thru this book group?
Sherrie , if you don’t mind I will share your comment in the MyFrenchLife bookclub chat of Facebook since some readers are only following us there . What came to my mind as she was born and brought up in an island is that she had that in common with Napoleon ! They were both ‘island’ people !
I have finished reading about 1/2 of this book. I am really enjoying the historical perspective of this book. Although I have to admit my knowledge of French history is very shallow. Also the descriptions of the clothing and toilette!!! What a burden that would’ve been to endure.
Bonjour Jacinta. Yes I appreciate you being in our previous online discussion event. It’s was fun. Wasn’t it. If I recall you bought the book after the event. I hope that you enjoyed it :) I too am looking forward to this read and discussion event. I’m waiting for my book to arrive.
perhaps not rules as such Marshall but the objective of #Bookchat is to read recently translated award-wining and best-selling French books. the next book is what I'm referring to as a rogue book. it was written in English. It is about France but not written in France. :)
yes, we will stick to our objective of recently translated French books but from time to time we may introduce a sprinkling of a relevant read for francophiles which may be outside this objective. I recognise your preference! Thanks for asking. I hope that you'll read this interesting book with us as an exception. you will I"m sure find it very interesting, with much to discuss.
ha! I guess we use the member term loosely in terms of the Book Club Marshall ;) At the moment anyone interested to join us and to read with us whether they be Free subscribers or Free subscribers... are often referred to as members .

You reference that this book choice is a deviation from "book club rules"....what are those rules? Thank you.
perhaps not rules as such Marshall but the objective of #Bookchat is to read recently translated award-wining and best-selling French books. the next book is what I'm referring to as a rogue book. it was written in English. It is about France but not written in France. :)
Thanks. The objective of Bookchat is to read "recently translated....French books".
Am I correct that future books will have French versions available for reading (as that is my preference)? (Example, Mon Mari).

I read the original when it first came out. I then followed the series which is 3 books.
One of my favourite all time reads, fascinating details.
Highly recommend
