How will this French Book Club work? #bookchat
‘My Cousin Maria Schneider’ by Vanessa Schneider has recently been published in English, translated by Molly Ringwald (actress and a Francophile) and we at MyFrenchLifeMagazine thought it could be our next exciting MyFrenchLife™ bookclub pick to discuss.
I’ve received quite a few enquiries from those who’ve started to read this book - some in English others are reading in French, which is one of the great things about this book club. You get to choose.
As I’ve previously mentioned this Book Club was hosted in a private group on Facebook called #Bookchat and with a private chat channel for each book.
Since moving here to Substack at the end of May, life has been a bit busy, getting set up and organised, and this has meant that I’ve had to revise our reading schedule somewhat.
HERE IS AN AUGUST UPDATE - French Bookclub TEXT CHAT CHANNELS + ONLINE LIVE DISCUSSION EVENT - RSVP REQUIREMENTS to JOIN US HERE.
What are the changes?
As its summer in the Northern Hemisphere our prime Convenor of #bookchat
is taking a summer break.Fortunately, we have two other hosts, both of whom are active members and have hosted for us before. In this instance allow me to introduce you to
. You may have read her article ‘The passing of Claude Sarraute’, which I published at the end of June.Elisabeth will host the reading & chat of 'My Cousin Maria Schneider'. And once again due to her pre-arranged summer holiday plans, this is how it will work.
Reading will be in July and early August and from:
around 15 August we’ll open a live chat channel both here on Substack and also in the FB private Group, (you get to choose where to engage)
Then on or around 20 August, we’ll schedule a live #Bookchat event for everyone: A discussion to be facilitated by Elisabeth and myself. Historically we have readers from all over the world, different continents, and different hemispheres, and this means that we may need to schedule two events to accommodate timezones in a civilised manner.
This stunning tale of Maria Schneider and her battles is stark yet consistently loving—and unforgettable.” Kirkus Book Reviews.
