The Abbey of Fontevraud is an amazing piece of medieval architecture and history, located in the Loire Valley in the center of the aptly-named Fontevraud-l’Abbaye village.
What a great article -- the history behind this Abbey is fascinating. I was not aware of the women being in power here. We never visited when we lived in the area, although it was not right next door, and now I regret it. It sounds like there has been a lot of improvement and renovation since then.
