I loved this article Jenn. The exploitation of slaves linked to colonialism was shocking. The very young Rafael Padilla (a.k.a Chocolate, very non p.c. today) has a cruel, shocking start to life.
The drawings by Toulouse-Lautrec are enchanting. I enjoyed the Lumière brothers reminded me of Betty Carlson’s recent article about La Ciotat.
Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the film - I must search it out.
Thank you Caroline! It’s clear from all the photos and drawings that Padilla was indeed a much-celebrated entertainer - despite his sad beginning and end.
I really enjoyed the film Chocolate. I think Omar Sy did a great job helping us to understand the story of the star clown and his life.
Yes, Kathy it was such an enjoyable and important film wasn't it?
Judy
Yes indeed! And always a pleasure to watch Omar Sy who's a real artist. He was Fabulous as well in Les Intouchables.
