For a few glorious minutes. Then I encountered lighting.

What a delightful read! I love how you wrote this.

Also, is that photo the actual lipstick? The color is divine. I’ve been googling it and I can’t seem to find that exact one.

Guess it’s probably only sold in upscale department stores. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really enjoyed this piece.

🤣🤣🤣 fair enough.

Oh my! Thanks so very much!

Honestly, it’s exactly like the kind of lipstick France would invent purely to intimidate Americans.

“Madame, this shade is only available between 2:00 and 4:00 pm on alternate Thursdays in a mirrored room.”

I wish I could tell you the color. I only know it looked expensive and judgmental.

"The cosmetics counter glows from beneath like an aquarium for the emotionally unstable. Brushes stand upright in glass cylinders like a jury."

Hi Jenn, I love your piece! There are so many great sentences that I can't copy all that I like!

"I needed an incident." It sounds like a darn good adventure to me, with you emerging from the sea of sunglasses holding your spring-colored lipstick like Botticelli's Venus rising from the waves.

And Kathy, wish I thought of “Botticelli’s Venus rising from the waves…”

Hi there Kathy! Deeply relieved someone understood that I was essentially reborn from a sea of sunglasses clutching coral lipstick and unresolved identity questions. Thank you for this glorious comment!

Reborn - like a phoenix rising! 😍

I love this for you as you negotiate your 'new’ French life.

Hi there Aviva! Thank you so much! I’m delighted it gave you a laugh. France gives me material whether I ask for it or not.
