A French village doubles in size each Easter Monday to cook one massive, not-quite-an-omelette—born in the 1970s, dressed in legend, and stirred with paddles.
I've read about this festival both here and in the regional press -- there seem to be a number of these "giant food festivals" in France. I've read about giant aligot, giant raclette, a giant strawberry tart, and probably more. It certainly takes a lot of community spirit and motivation.
The giant aligot seems a lot easier to manage than the omelette.
it’s kind of amazing how many towns rally around the idea of making one dish supersized. And I am pretty sure those are pretty recent, not much older than the Guinness book of world records. There are also big food truck festivals now - one claims to draw over 100,000 people: https://www.foodtrucks-festival.fr
there are then a ton of regional harvest festivals. Near us, there are a bunch of chestnut festivals, but how many chestnuts can you eat?
I think so. Oddly enough, there seem to be several kind of giant omelette events around the country. And then there are several other countries as well.
I’m not really sure I’d go out of my way for a giant omelette
Keith, it was interesting to read about this event that brings people together.

I think you just listed the biggies
