I used songs so much when I was learning French! Of course we studied literature and poetry too, but I found songs stuck in my mind better. This was pre-digital age, so I learned with what people had furnished me on cassettes -- a lot of Jacques Brel and Renaud! You couldn't ask for more contrasting styles and vocabulary register, but they both really helped me. I used to try to transcribe them myself, but had no way of checking if I was right unless I was lucky enough to be able to ask a French person.

I'd love to hear from others about your experiences of learning French with/through music - anyone else?
