1. Francophile generosity - Sara Somers, Paris
One morning this week I opened my eyes to something generous. Those of you who’ve been reading my work in le Bulletin for years would know that look out for generosity of spirit wherever I can find it. Well, this morning I found it in my email inbox!
Allow me to introduce you to Sara Somers whom I ‘met’ on Substack - you can find her here. Sara was reading with us in #Bookchat where MyFrenchLife.org and le Bulletin subscribers read recently translated award-winning and best-selling French Books. Oh, and did I mention that Sara lives in Paris?
Revenons à nos moutons - but, back to the topic…
I discovered an email with a familiar subject line: Wallace Fountains. Sara has cross-posted my le Bulletin from last Saturday: How much do you know about these green icons in Paris? The Wallace Fountains.
She generously shared it with her subscribers. Thank you, Sara.
Sara’s ‘Out My Window’ is a lovely read: ‘“My life in Paris: musings and observations” and she is one of the many authors on Substack writing about France or writing from France. This is why I created #FranceStack™ for all Francophiles - Where you’ll find a deep, rich repository for Francophiles. Discover more...

2. Finding France one bite at a time - Kate Hill from Gascony
You’ll also find Kate & her publication: The Camont Journals on #FranceStack™
What You’ll Enjoy
Kate is this week launching her cookbook memoir, which I thought you’d like to know about. It’s fascinating to see how Kate will be serial publishing her book in The Camont Journals available to us all.
You’ll be able to read Kate’s book by becoming a subscriber.
And, here Kate describes her book. (It causes me to salivate, you too, I expect :) )
Finding France: A Culinary Memoir is an edible tale of a young traveling cook who gets stuck in France and stays to become a wise old woman with a head full of ideas on French food and cooking. Kate Hill—cook, teacher, mentor, and author—invites you into her world of French food as learned over three dozen years of practice in the rural farmlands of Gascony.
Finding France… published in weekly installments full of French inspiration from the kitchen, garden, farms & markets of Gascony. Written at the Relais de Camont, my home and writer’s residency in Southwest France.
Kate is an experienced cook with a wonderful way with words. More recently she’s started calling herself a writer, she says, and loves having a focus on writing; about food and her life. Kate also now hosts creative residencies. I suggest that you read more about these.
Kate Hill is the author of over a dozen cookbooks, including A Culinary Journey in Gascony, Cassoulet: A French Obsession, and A Gascon Year Series of 12 recipe and story volumes (available here) . She has written for Saveur Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and America’s Best Food Writing 2019, curated by Samin Nosrat. She has been featured in Bon Appétit, Food and Wine, Condé Nast Traveler, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and My French Country Home, as well as countless websites.
So there you are… Cooking, Writing, and Inspiration - available to all from Gascony.

4. Shoutout: miscellaneous francophile magic - NEW
Last week I started to recommend and publish, one at a time, a collection of cool francophile readings that I’ve come across… here we go for this week!
A (weekly) Letter from Chateau de Courtomer, covers French culture, history, news & life, from Elisabeth. With a particular focus on the world in and around an 18th-century French Chateau in Lower Normandy.
This substack is absolutely delightful - I suggest that you have a look yourself.

I love the soap photo & the article. In Paris I used to buy the soap brand Marseilles...but now I wonder if it was just branding or if it was actual “savon de marseille”
Bonjour! I absolutely love reading your newsletter. I’m curious, since I’m a book person, what your France reading list would look like. If someone was traveling to France, which novels would make for the best companion reading? I read a lot of historical fiction and The Alice Network comes to mind. Also, The Nightingale. Do you have any others? Xo thx for writing!
