I have to admit I've never been to Marseille, except for a brief exit from the train station on the way somewhere else in the 80s. My French daughters and friends tell me it's such a different world that it's better to go with somebody who knows the city. I wonder what Suzanne thinks of that...

I think you could go alone but it’s a good idea to go with a plan as it can be overwhelming Marseille is a big city so there are many options and impossible to do everything in one day. Best to break it down. Perhaps my next article?

It’s really beautiful and I enjoy popping over there from time to time.

By the way, the recommendation about not going alone was not really for safety reasons, but because of overwhelm from the complexity of the city. It's a pity to have never gone as we are less than 4 hours away. For the moment it's not on my priority list because so many other places are! Thanks for your offer of advice though, and I'll look forward to your next article!

Marseille is one of my favorite cities too. You have hit upon several of my favorite spots (but not all.) I keep them secreted away in my heart lest they should fall victim to Instagramming hoards.
