Keith says:

I just saw this note about a book that might be interesting for our book group. It won the Prix du Premier Roman in 2021 and has just been translated into English.” Would you be interested to read this with us?

My Husband, by Maud Ventura, translated from the French by Emma Ramadan (HarperVia). Ventura’s protagonist, a forty-year-old English teacher and mother of two whose husband works in finance, is a comically exaggerated cliché whose sole concern is maintaining her husband’s interest. But, as the story progresses, the intensity of her fixation is contrasted with his profound indifference, and her vapid exterior is shown to mask desperate anxieties about class, gender, and power. What will we read in the future?

To date, we’ve only read ‘Best-selling and award-winning, recently translated French fiction’ which has been fabulous. Some have read in French and most have read in English - discussion has been held in English.

is the convenor of this group and occasionally Elisabeth and Keith have facilitated.

We’re considering adding additional sub-groups where we read different types of books and different themes and I’m open to your suggestions - below, please.
