Oh, I wanted to spend so much more time about not only Mick's francophilia (& cinephilia I should add) but most particularly to tease out his "adaptations" of Gainsbourg; that he'd chosen some obscure SG tunes, which are also very challenging. Perhaps that would've been rather too specific for the broader audience last night and it's a subject I've often discussed with Mick ... As luck would have it I was teaching a class of French students earlier today at RMIT as part of a research project and we discussed the notion of "transcreation"... a conversation for another time - perhaps with you!

Judy that was both beautifully written and captivating... I could quote many lines but the one that feels so pertinent during these trembling days is "France said something quietly radical: that carrying a culture across a border, with devotion and artistry and no native claim to it," how the world needs this understanding to spread...
