Grand Magasin Au Bon Marché – Weekday Wandering with Jacqui in Paris – 26 November 2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers…

Today we were in the 7ème by métro Sèvres Babylone (lines 10, 12). Here, we find the beautiful Hôtel Lutetia, as well as the iconic, the original, grand magasin Au Bon Marché and its adjacent store La Grande Épicerie de Paris. These shopping venues are in full Xmas splendour and are really a sight to see.

Also in the neighbourhood, we saw the Chapelle de la Médaille Miraculeuse of Sainte Catherine Labouré, and the Chapelle St Vincent de Paul.

The first video link is for our main walk; the second is a very short view inside the Chapelle St Vincent de Paul.

Place Vendome et Rue de la Paix – Weekday Wandering with Jacqui in Paris – 17 November 2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers…

What a long walk today! We started at Place Vendôme in the 1er arrondissement and walked northeast along Rue de la Paix (especially for Susan McGregor ?).

At Place de l’Opéra (9ème arrondissement), we went around the Opéra Garnier, to Galeries Lafayette, where they have just unveiled their Christmas window displays. We went into the store to see this year’s spectacular Christmas tree.

Unfortunately, our video ended abruptly due to reception issues, though I did do a bonus video from the Galeries Lafayette rooftop Terrasse, so we have two links for you to view the videos.

In addition, some bonus photos.

Thank you for joining me, I look forward to seeing you again next Friday.

Dome des Invalides – Weekday Wandering with Jacqui in Paris – Friday 6 November 2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers…

Today we visited the Dôme des Invalides, the beautiful golden Parisian landmark which also doubles as Napoléon’s tomb. Les Invalides is situated in the 7ème (métro lines 8 École Militaire/ La Tour Maubourg/ Invalides, line 13 St François Xavier/Varenne/Invalides). Along with the church and the tombs, it is also home to the military hospital/retirement home, and several important military museums. We were there for two and a half hours, which was very rushed and we only saw a small section of what is available. If you visit, make sure you plan a whole day to really get the most out of it. My girls absolutely loved it!

The Dome des Invalides video is accessible here: – Ongoing technical challenges have meant that the LIVE video was not able to be saved and loaded on our YouTube channel @MaVieFrancaise

Le Salon du Chocolat video is accessible here. Technical challenges mean that this video is not accessible via our YouTube channel, instead only via Facebook.

Le Salon du Chocolat – Weekday Wandering in Paris with Jacqui – 29 October 2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers… thank you to those who joined me today at our surprise location… the Salon du Chocolat de Paris! This annual event has been running for 27 years, although last year was cancelled due to covid, and this year was a lot quieter than previous events. It is held at the Parc des Expositions in 15ème (métro Porte de Versailles). It is held on Toussaint weekend. Chocolatiers and pâtissiers from France and all over the world come to show their creations, providing ample degustations and lots of great offers for purchasing. They run discussions, demonstrations, workshops and several prestigious competitions. Each year, they showcase impressive chocolate sculptures, and have a défilé (fashion parade) of garments made or adorned with chocolate. Here is the video (please note, it will not be posted on YouTube, although it will be permanently available here on Facebook). https://www.facebook.com/MyFrenchLife/videos/422972255949673/

Here are some accompanying photos, although the entries from the Bûche competition I will post separately

Thank you everyone, see you next Friday!

Encore Weekday Wanderers… more from the Salon du Chocolat de Paris… here are the entries from ‘Exposition Bûche Ô ma bûche’.Find out more about the Salon du Chocolat at the official link:”Salon du Chocolat – Paris – Du 28 octobre au 1er novembre 2021 – Porte de Versailles” https://www.salon-du-chocolat.com?lang=en

Parc Montsouris, 11ème, Paris – Weekday Wandering with Jacqui – 22 October 2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers… today we continued our walk in the 14ème, at Parc Montsouris, starting at Cité Universitaire (RER B, tram 3a). In the middle ages, Montsouris was the site of windmills and the Bièvre river – so lots of mice, hence the name Mont “souris”- which was then highly quarried for building stones, eventually becoming a barren landscape. Under Napoléon III, it was transfomed into the beautiful park as part of the Haussman city improvements, and opened in 1878. The park features hilly paths through English-style gardens and lawns, a lake and cascades. The Mire de Sud is a stone marker which indicates the southern point along the Paris Meridian, which passes through the Paris Observatory just a few blocks to the north, and then up through the city to a similar stone marker in Montmartre. RER B train track runs through the park, as does the now defunct Petite Centure. We ended our walk at the Réservoir de Montsouris, which is the largest water reservoir for the city, built also in the 1870s.

Buttes-Chaumont: Weekday Wandering in Paris with Jacqui – 15.10.2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers… today we went to Parc des Buttes-Chaumont (19ème), which is a very hilly and beautiful landscape in the northeast corner of Paris. It is accessible via métro line 7bis (a tiny little line off line 7) at stations Buttes-Chaumont or Botzaris, or Line 5 métro Laumière. It is the 5th largest park within the city (24.7 hectares), featuring a 50-metre high rocky island at the centre of an artificial lake, with various grottos and waterfalls in the surrounding English-style gardens. I really enjoyed exploring the small section I covered in the video, but there is so much more to see, as well as in the neighbouring quartiers; I didn’t manage that today, definitely something to add to my to-do list!

le Train Bleu – Weekday Wandering in Paris with Jacqui – 12 October 2021

Bonjour Weekday Wanderers… today we went for breakfast at Le Train Bleu, the spectacular and iconic restaurant located at Gare de Lyon. Unfortunately, discretion and privacy for the other patrons limited our video so it was not the scenic event I anticipated. We were seated in the lounge bar area which did not have the stunning neo-baroque/Belle Époque decor, though it was cosy and intimate for a relaxed get-together with friends. The service was very professional and friendly. Booking for either lunch or dinner is much more preferable to enjoy the beautiful scenery… I will have to do that again soon.

The Vendages Festival Montmartre – Weekday Wandering in Paris

Today we were at the Fête des Vendanges in Montmartre, the annual grape harvest festival which began in 1934. It was still relatively early when our video took place, I can assure you it got much more lively later on. What a great day!! I was not able to visit the Musée de Montmartre but I will definitely head back there again soon; I had forgotten how charming it is in Montmartre, I’m very pleased to have spent a beautiful day there today.

The Senat – Jardin du Luxembourg, 75006. Weekday Wandering in Paris – 5 October 2021

We’re at the Jardin du Luxembourg, enjoying the Parisian rain en terrasse, and seeing the Fontaines de Medici and Léda, which have recently completed an 18-month-long restoration.

“Come with us to ride on my favourite métro ride, line 6, which has an above-ground section or ‘métro aérien’ from Sèvres Lecourbe to Passy, with a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. The métro is so iconic, so Paris… sometimes it is dirty and overcrowded, but when it works well, it’s an efficient way of navigating the city. Love it or hate it, it’s the way of life here in Paris.” says Jacqui Lucquin Edwards

PARIS: Autour l’Arc de Triomphe – On scooter with Shannon Latimer Marchat

This lovely video is a gift from long time member and Paris Resident Shannon—a birthday gift! so wonderful!!! Merci mille fois Shannon.

Shannon says: “As a long-time Paris resident, nothing has gotten me more excited to get out and take some photos and videos than the Cristo installation. It really shook 18 months of the covid blues and it was fun to see so many others coming together to enjoy the view.

.
I am lucky to have a Vespa ? to scoot around Paris on and to have a fearless friend who would brave Paris traffic to film this with me when my chest-mounted GoPro decided not to turn on.
.
This is a little clip I made with some ??
.
(PS – A very happy, belated birthday to Judy – thanks for creating this fun community! )”
