Jazz in Paris
A diversity of styles and an artistic groundswell are always on the agenda in the world of jazz in Paris.
Offering a warm welcome since the early 20th century, Paris is among the leading international capitals of jazz, both a compulsory stopping point for the great names and the centre of a real artistic groundswell.
Jazz and Paris go back a long way! The French capital has always offered jazz a warm welcome and while districts have changed with the times, the music continues to be played on a daily basis in numerous settings, combining tradition and invention.
Jazz is available on a nightly basis in clubs. Initiates and novices, experts and amateurs, everyone comes here for one reason only, love of the music. Jazz clubs have an enormous advantage – the proximity they offer to musicians.
Jazz at the bar
It is not always necessary to go to the big halls to hear good music. Paris has a large number of bars and cafés which sometimes clear a corner of tables and chairs to create a small stage where jazz can settle in for the evening.
Last evening after a relaxed and wonderful dinner with a new firend in an apartment almost under the Eiffel Tower, we retired for ‘just one last drink’ at Hotel d’Aubusson an understated 4 star hotel in the 6th arrondisement. The bar is Cafe Laurent. It’s an institution. I know people (friends from home, in fact) who stay here every year and love to sit in the courtyard and listen to the jazz.
…A review by others “Lend an ear and listen closely, because a pure moment of true pleasure is going to take place in the cosy Café Laurent, located in the rue Dauphine, in the 6th arrondissement. June 21st, from 6.30pm, the café of the hotel d’Aubusson will not miss this special occasion to put forth a special playlist.
François Fruch and Christian Brenner, two jazz geniuses, invite you to a unique musical exchange filled with silence, suggestions and energy. On one hand, François Fruch, a Mozart inspired artist, will bring back to life the master. On the other hand, Christian Brenner will be playing improvisations and solos.
A musical and dynamic blend that’s sure to bring magic to this discrete scene! The jazz lovers will probably not resist the swing of the double bass and the fast jolts of the piano. These two artists will surely make the café’s walls dance, all in a fantastic and enchanting atmosphere, and joyful acoustics.”
