What’s on in Paris this April

If you’re lucky enough to be spending April in Paris, you’ll know that spring is well and truly underway.

With the weather bright and the days getting longer, the French city of light couldn’t possibly be lovelier.

Although we recommend that you spend as much time as possible soaking up the sunshine, we’ve collected the best of the month’s unique events and museums to help you really make the most of your trip.

Des hommes, des mondes exhibition

What? An exhibition of contemporary art focusing on a multitude of different cultures, religions and folklores- not just French!

Why should I go? This should be a truly fascinating exhibition with a huge range of cultures expressed through a huge range of different mediums (from sculpture to sound installations).

Located in a former Cistercian monastery only converted to a gallery in 2008, even if you have no interest in diverse culture at all, the setting of this free exhibition is reason enough to go along.

When? Until 15 June.

Robert Adams, ‘L’endroit où nous vivons‘

What? A photography exhibition highlighting the struggle between nature and urbanisation in the American Midwest.

Why should I go? Adams’ photos are chillingly beautiful, and this exhibition really tells a sad story. Centred on 250 photographs taken over the course of Adams’ 40 year career, it sees the landscape lost to the swelling cities. And as Time Out perfectly describes, ‘it’s a loss that this exhibition will make you feel.’

When? This exhibition started in February and will run until May.

Foire de Paris

What? A trade show that showcases the latest, most avant-garde products and services across a range of fields.

Why should I go? From fashion to DIY, from gastronomy to interior design, this trade show aims to make day to day life more beautiful, and it consequently has plenty of ideas to help you French-ify your life. Whatever your interests are, you’ll find them collated in this huge exhibition hall. It’s the ideal place to find inspiration that you can take home with you.

When? Only until 11 May.

Le Salon Rue 89 des Vins

What? 50 winemakers gather here to present their latest creations – French, Italian, Serbian and Chilean- so there’ll be plenty to sample.

Why should I go? Nowhere else will you find such an agglomeration of people so dedicated to quality wine. Offering well-known wines along less familiar products, for the wine connoisseur, this will feel like a dream. If you’re a fan of quality wine, there isn’t an exhibition in the world more suited to your tastes.

When? This exhibition is only for 48 hours, but as far as April in Paris goes, it is well worth squeezing in!

Mille milliards de fourmis

What? One to keep the kids entertained, this oddly fascinating exhibition will tell you everything you didn’t know about ants.

Why should I go? Unique and interesting, this look into the world of ants is hugely educational without being boring. You’ll see the world of the ants from a new perspective, and be surprised at how much you learn. There’s also the added bonus that it will keep your kids happy, and is perfect for keeping you out of the inevitable April showers!

When? Right through April, until August.
