Auxerre: France’s former Provençal Roman capital

Auxerre—an adventure back in time, yet easily accessible to the intrepid traveler. Steeped in history, both architectural and political, the easy walk in the older part of town makes one expect to see Ulrich von Lichtenstein from Gelderland around any turn. Named ‘Town of Art & History’ in 1995.
