Summer is a time for the weird and wonderful in France. And I don’t mean things like Paris Plage where a beach is recreated in central Paris. Or the French penchant for all going on holiday at the same time in August.

Living with pigs in rural France

The pigs love their field. They respect the electric fence wire after having had a few shocks in the early days and are living in piggy heaven. They spend their days eating, sleeping and rooting around, which is all a pig really wants to do.

Expat catching up with animals in France

Put a sheep in a field with as much shade, grass and clover as you like, and the only thing it wants to do is get out! We put a lot of work into what we thought was sheep-proof fencing. It worked for a week or two, until the sheep decided they wanted a change of scenery.

Surviving Our Early Expat Years

These days I’m a lake owner, gîte runner and llama farmer. I’m also an English graduate, an editor and a writer. I have a vast vocabulary – in English, at least. One of the hardest things about being an ex-pat has been getting used to being a bumbling moron in the foreign tongue.
