French Film Friday: Come, fall in love

Happy Friday everyone! In the words of Rihanna, here’s to the freakin’ weekend! To help you get in the weekender zone, we bring you a selection of French films that we love, hate, or think you should watch just to say you’ve watched them.

It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a romantic at heart. Nothing makes me happier than watching a film where the girl gets the guy (or when the girl gets the girl, or the guy gets the guy). The violins will swell, the lovers will kiss, and they’ll ride off together into the sunset. Makes me smile and tear up every time.

So settle in for three movies that will (hopefully) make you smile. Happy endings all round!

‘Jeux d’enfants’

It’s a bit of a twisted tale about two friends who go through life daring each other to do crazier and crazier things. I do love me a good friends-turned-lovers story.

‘L’ami de mon amie’

A 1987 film about friendship and boyfriend-swapping. I don’t particularily like the shooting style of this film, but I do like the story, and the happily-ever-after.

‘L’arnacœur’

This film reminds me of  ‘The Wedding Planner’, except instead of a female professional wedding planner who falls in love with the groom, we have a professional male couple-destroyer who falls in love with the bride. Definitely my favourite film on this list.

    I love love love L’Arnacoeur.

However, I felt that the ending for ‘Jeux d’enfants’ was kind of happy, but then kid of not. Without ruining it for anyone.. how is what happens at the end ideal?!

    Still a good film though.

“Quatre étoiles” with José Garcia and Isabelle Carré is such a funny romantic comedy. These actors are brilliant.
