Summer in France: learn about la mode française in Lyon
Here at MyFrenchLife™, we are always trying to find ways that we can experience France beyond the cliché.
When travelling to France, nothing beats being able to immerse yourself in the true vie française, far removed from the usual tourist traps.
We want all the savvy tips on where to go to meet locals; how to imitate that famous French style; and how to perfect a French accent so we’ll be speaking like a local.
For us budding French speakers, there are plenty of great language courses out there… but many of us don’t want to travel all the way to France to find ourselves stuck in a classroom. Instead, we’ve discovered we can experience the best of both worlds – finding a course that is interesting and helps you to immerse yourself fully in French.
Spend your summer in France
As far removed from a dreaded grammar class as French Brie is from a block of ‘Tasty’ cheese, Université de la Mode, Lyon offers a fun summer fashion course for those travellers among us who want to explore an important aspect of French culture.
With courses focusing on many facets in the Fashion and Textiles field and class trips to various museums (Musée des tissus et des arts decoratif, anyone?), the Summer school is open to everyone regardless of your level of French.
In fact, on every excursion and during every class, there is always an interpreter at hand if you can’t quite distinguish your chaussure from your chaussette. Learning how to style from the French themselves, your summer in France will be that little bit different and interesting.
In their own words, Université de la Mode, Lyon teaches you “the local know-how” as well as “mastery of new methods and products”. Though for many of us Paris seems the obvious fashion epicentre in France, Lyon actually has a rich history with textile creation. Plus, Paris in summer is beautiful but… there are just so many tourists everywhere!
So if you want to experience something a little different this summer in France, Lyon with its rich history and fantastically interesting old town is a great place to start. And if you love la mode française just as much as us, perhaps this summer course is the one for you!Fashion Summer Course at Université de la Mode, Lyon
