Falling in love with a Parisian, Paris, and rue Mouffetard

The place that really stole my heart was rue Mouffetard, in the 5th arrondissement, on which my brother and I strolled with Renée one day, and I remember her telling us about that quaint little street's history, which goes back to Roman times, when Paris was still Lutèce.

I believe that most Americans cling to any national identity they can. Because the US is, indeed, a 'Melting Pot', and where we came from plays such an integral part in who we are. And as an American girl growing up in New England with a French last name, the identity I clung to from an early age was a French one.

n total juxtaposition to the glamour of the season of Advent, I recently read about a rather controversial decision which would affect the capital – or a good 9.2 per cent of it this year, if the unemployment statistics are anything to go by. During my time in Paris, I remember noticing the stark and irrefutable presence of the city’s SDF (sans domicile fixe, or homeless).

Nous les allemands, on dit que nous séparons la « vie pro » de la « vie perso ». Cela me vient rarement à l’idée de partager mes problèmes de couple avec mes clients allemands. En France, il s’agit d’une intimité. Les relations sont très importantes, surtout si l’on peut les nouer avec des partenaires professionnels.
